Holybourne Cricket Club

President: Stephen Carey
Vice President: Paul Taylor
Now in our ninth season, Holybourne Cricket Club was founded upon two fundamental criteria:
To provide a cricketing outlet for players of all abilities
To become a focal point for social activity within the village.
For players who take their cricket seriously we have a league side playing most Saturdays throughout the summer that has been promoted every season in which it has participated, a trend we are looking to continue for as long as possible! On Sundays we have a series of friendly non-league games where the result is less important than the taking part……

The Club enjoys the generous support of a number companies in the village such as, Town and Country Cars, Triple F Brewery, Alison and Garwood, Toe Prints, Selnor Services and Elstream Management. This support has been crucial to the recently introduced youth training scheme of regular coaching sessions and fixtures throughout the season for younger players.

This Colts activity has, without doubt, been the success of this year. With upwards of 40 youngsters learning the game from a team of coaches, under the direction of Saturday captain Paul Taylor, every Friday evening through the summer. While they are learning their parents and fellow club members take advantage of the real ale and other beverages from the Club’s fully-licensed bar, which is open every weekend of the summer from Friday evenings onwards. The Club is now as much a social, as cricketing club, with a series of events throughout the year. We always welcomes new faces, be they social members or players.

Champions of Hampshire North East Division 2

Wow wee people we finally did it.

For the 2nd year running We are the Champions. It’s taken me 3 days to stop shaking not sure whether it was all that excitement or the amount of beer consumed afterwards. The relief all round when Tim hit the winning runs on Saturday was immense. Never have I saw so many nervous faces in one place. We had the constant walk rounds the pitch by many trying to calm them self down, the bar was serving beer as quick as you like to people trying the alcohol approach and fingernails were being chewed to the skin.

We remained unbeaten in our last 10 games to achieve our goal and a huge pat on the back goes to absolutely everyone who played their part this season. It’s become more evident that we don’t always have to rely on the big 3 guns of Trev, Mr Kip & Parky all the time. The trio have performed heroics almost most weeks. However there have been valuable contributions from everyone all round. Ayresey, Chuck and Tiger have scored a lot of runs, Revels, Bezza, Grizzly, Dave B & Big Ron have performed week in week out when required. Deano has come back into the fold and bowled superbly. Onion has bowled consistently well throughout the season and even the big hairy Brummie has scored a few and taken a couple of wickets, but the man that needs the biggest thank you is the one responsible week in week out for gelling us into the team that we have become. He has to juggle so many things to try and keep a lot of people happy which as affected his own personal game but without him at the helm we wouldn’t be the same. We take off our caps to Teffers the main man. A big thank you to all the other guys who have helped throughout the season as well as Mrs Taylor and Kaz for teas plus our bar people for keeping the beer flowing. And last but not least everyone who has come along and supported us. The noise generated on Saturday by the horn and the cheering was excellent. We are the only team in the Hampshire league this season to have won successive championships.

It’s back to the Rose bowl on November 7th for the presentation and hopefully this year we will have a better turnout for the evening. More details will follow when I get them. There are plenty of pics on the website now of the celebrations for you to have a look at.

So the season is nearly over and we start to plan for the next one. We should only be 1 division away from county standard next year which is where we want to be. We need to carry on our development and standards both on and off the pitch to achieve this goal. The indoor league will be back with us soon and before you know it Indoor nets as well. Time really does fly.

The only thing I would like to add to Mickey's excellent summing up of the season's great events, is a big thank you to our Club Captain for his tremendous enthusiasm and support. His reports have been a joy to read. Thanks Mickey.
We have a fantastic bunch of people in our club. Their continual striving for excellence, both on the pitch and off, has transformed the club into what it is today. There are simply too many people to thank so my sincere thanks goes out to everyone and let's now look forward to even greater things.
